Progress Bar Podcast – Episode 3

First post-small3

On this week’s podcast, we delve into Nintendo’s 2DS. The team discusses what we think of the new design, and whether sacrificing 3D is a confusing move or a play for a different sort of gamer.

We discuss some of the pricing barriers that Nintendo has struggled with around the debut of the Wii U and 3DS. We also look at Chris Kohler’s theory on why price and a lack of compelling games may be holding Nintendo back.

We discuss whether the company is truly in trouble and if the Japanese giant should turn its attention to creating games for the likes of the iPhone and Android platforms. We look at John Gruber’s argument from Daring Fireball and discuss the dynamic between smartphone games and handheld consoles.

The last part is a “SpoilerCast” of the PS3’s The Last of Us. We talk about what we liked, what we didn’t and whether Brendan should complete the game already. Kochie and I also exchange words over whether the ending was good or not. He is mostly wrong.
