Sony has finally announced another confirmed release date for their upcoming racing game DriveClub. Developed by Evolution Studios DriveClub was originally scheduled to release with the Playstation 4 launch lineup but seems to have missed the mark somewhat. Nevertheless there is a confirmed release date and a new announcement trailer.
The trailer showcases the 3 challenges you will face while racing AI or other players which include the Drift, Speed and Cornering that we got a hands-on with at EB Expo 2013. These challenges will earn you points so that you compare and compete with your friends as well as the online world.
In a blog post from Shuhei Yoshida he explains that DriveClub was pushed back to give the players a fully invovative racing game.
We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game.
The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DRIVECLUB offers has not been previously achieved in this category, and, because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you’re waiting for.
Both Brendan and I enjoyed our chance to play DriveClub last year when it was set to release but it will be interesting to see just how much a year can change a game. Other online racing games have been attempted (Need For Speed: Rivals) and seem to peter out very quickly. While they might not be as “truly innovative and socially connected” as DriveClub may be there isn’t too information to go on at the moment so watch this space.
DriveClub is set to release on October 7th, 2014 exclusive to the Playstation 4.
