Everything from Sony at E3 2018

Sony returns to the stage once again to bring us the latest in gaming. Let’s see what they have coming up at E3 2018.

The Last of Us: Part Two

Sony opened the show with an extended trailer and gameplay demo of The Last of Us: Part Two. A touching, romantic scene cuts abruptly into the brutal violence the franchise is known for. The visuals, as expected, are mindblowing. The gameplay demo follows Ellie as she attempts to sneak her way past a group of the religious fanatics seen in the earlier trailer.

We get to see brutal Ellie engage in melee combat, dodge attacks, crawling under trucks, removing arrows from her shoulder and holding people hostage as a meat shield.Crafting returns and a new explosive arrow was used to devastating effect.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Four returning Black Ops maps coming to Black Ops 4: Jungle, Summit, Slums and Firing Range. Exclusive pre-order bonus on PlayStation 4.

Black Ops 3 coming to PS+ tonight.

Destiny 2: Forsaken

Ghost of Tsushima

As promised, we got our first extended look at the gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima. The environment, lighting, weather effects and music are all sublime. Combat animations are smooth and it seems real work has gone into making an authentic samurai fighting style. Stealth was shown, with Arkham Knight-style chained takedowns, parkour and grappling slingshot. Ending the demo was a duel draped in a sunset as Mongol invaders approach.

No release details were provided.

Control

New game from Remedy which looks very familiar to Quantum Break. It remains unclear if Control is directly connected.

Coming 2019.

Resident Evil Remake 2

Finally! It went dark for years and today we finally got to see the remake of Resident Evil 2. It was confirmed after the show that you can choose between fixed and over-the-shoulder camera and that it will be multi-platform.

Coming January 25th, 2019.

Trover Saves the Universe

It’s tough to follow Resident Evil 2, but this new game from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland did it’s best.

Coming early 2019.

Kingdom Hearts 3

It seems Sony paid more than Microsoft for an exclusive trailer. The pirate world returns alongside Captain Jack, Will Turner and Elizabeth. The trailer shows off naval combat and underwater levels.

Available January 29th, 2019.

Death Stranding

One of the hardest parts of E3 is trying to describe a Death Stranding trailer. We got our first look at gameplay showing off different environments, different hairstyles and a couple of new characters.

No release details were provided.

Nioh 2

Spider-man

Rounding out the four heavy-hitters for Sony is an extended gameplay demo for Spiderman. Spidey is going through a prison that used to house all the criminals and supervillains he’s put away. Electro. Rhino. Scorpion. Vulture. Mr Negative. All being lead by a mysterious figure who never shows up.

Spiderman is coming out on September 7th, 2018.

Deracine

After the show From Software snuck in the announcement of Deracine, a VR game. Very unexpected, but not much to go on for now.

Final Thoughts

The pacing started off pretty rough, with a couple of musical performances and arguably a completely unnecessary venue change really bring proceedings to a halt. Once we got past that hump however the pace picked up significantly with every extended demo knocking it out of the park. and a couple of huge surprises.

The biggest of which is undoubtedly the first look at the remake Resident Evil 2, but the announcement of Control from Remedy and Nioh 2 from Team Ninja were pleasant surprises. Despite the bumpy beginning, at the end of the day, everything in Sony’s showing this year presented beautifully and left us dying to see more.

That’s it for our Day 3 coverage of E3 2018. The last conference we have will be the Nintendo Direct showcase starting tomorrow at 2am AEST (13th June).
