Flat Earth Games have just announced their newest title, Objects in Space.

Objects in Space is an open-world space-trading game where the space ships are less like World War II fighters and more like Cold War submarines. Flat Earth Games explain that instead of looking out a viewscreen straight ahead into space, players will be poring over sensor arrays trying to discern asteroids from foes, or trying to use nebulas to run and hide if an enemy detects them first.

Co-founder of Flat Earth Games, Rohan Harris discusses this further, noting that “Space is big. Really big. You won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. So all the combat in Objects in Space takes place well outside of visual range.”

The game takes place many dozens of lightyears away from Earth in the Apollo cluster, a self-sufficient new home for ambitious settlers which has decayed from the utopia it was intended to be. Flat Earth Games elaborate that it is now a fractious place filled with warring nations, massive corporations and corrupt governments. In the middle are the lowlifes. The traders and the smugglers, the miners and the pirates, the privateers and the freelancers. And you. You are nobody. And in a place as unforgiving as Apollo, it’s likely to stay that way.

Leigh Harris, co-founder of Flat Earth Games mentions that the world in Objects in Space “is what you make it”.

“We’re giving players the ability to build their ship from scratch, tweaking each component and module to optimise their ship for stealth, speed, jump capabilities, weapons arrays, cargo hold or whatever else best suits their play style.”

Objects in Space will release early 2016 for PC, Mac and Linux. More information about the game can be found on the official site and Twitter account.
