A new Australian Kickstarter has launched today by Gaming Artists, which looks to produce a book that focuses on game creators who have built artistic games.

Titled ‘The Interactive Canvas’, the book is intended for serious game fans around who love their games, and appreciate the vision, creativity and talent that brings epic gaming experiences to life.

Author of The Interactive Canvas, Matthew Sainsbury says “Games have advanced to the point where they can inspire emotion and challenge the mind, as well as being a great way to relax after day’s work with a beer or three.”

“There’s a big community of people out there that take their games seriously, and I want to create something unique for these people.”

Gaming Artists have confirmed 13 artists are on board for the project, such as Jonathan Blow (Braid, The Witness) and Dan Pinchbeck (Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs), with more to be announced over the coming weeks.

Experienced academics and critics from within the games industry will have some of their written pieces featured in the book, including Brendan Keogh, author of Killing Is Harmless, a book which critically analyses Spec Ops: The Line.

Sainsbury and the team are looking to raise $60,000 for the project. More information can be found on the Kickstarter page.
