EA have mentioned today in a release that Star Wars: The Old Republic is continuing to grow, since the MMO went to a free-to-play model in November last year. With the increasing numbers, players will also be set to receive game update 2.4 releasing on 2 October, titled The Dread War.

Update 2.4 will introduce Warzone Arenas, allowing for 4v4 PvP (Player vs Player) battles. General Manager for BioWare Austin, Jeff Hickman comments on the release of new content in The Old Republic, as well as the BitRaider streaming system, which allows players to access the game with a small initial download.

“We are constantly looking to improve the gameplay experience in Star Wars: The Old Republic, finding fresh new ways for players to try it out while offering new, higher-level content to our existing community. With the addition of the new BitRaider streaming download, the upcoming Game Update 2.4, which includes two new Operations and the launch of PvP Warzone Arenas, there’s never been a better time to join us.”

EA also mention from today that any new or previous subscribers that renew their subscription to The Old Republic will receive the game’s first expansion, Rise of the Hutt Cartel, for free.
