Capcom lays off US Employees, Senior VP Quits

capcom-1

Senior Vice President Christian Svensson has left Capcom amid a major restructure that laid off several employees from its US office.

As the story broke, headlines focused on Christian’s departure which he announced via a Google Plus post. However, a Capcom representative has since issued a statement about the layoffs. There have been no further details about the number of staff affected or whether this will delay any future development projects.

Christian, a veteran of eight years at the company, “formerly held the position of president of entertainment publishing at Midway and was a games journalist before that”.

This departure is not a bad thing for me and it’s happening mostly because I’d suggested it during the early planning for today’s reorg. While I wish the company the best of luck, Capcom is going in a different direction and the need for people at my level, relative to other areas, is lacking. Those who know me well, know that I’ve been ready to go for quite some time.
