Xbox Series X Official Specs Revealed

Xbox have posted the official specs for the Xbox Series X, releasing later this year.

The Xbox Series X will contain AMD’s latest Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures (four times the processing power of an Xbox One), along with 12 TFLOPS of GPU performance (twice that of an Xbox One X and more than eight times the original Xbox One). The new console will also come with its own patented form of Variable Rate Shading (VRS) and hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing.

Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer explains further about VRS by mentioning that “rather than spending GPU cycles uniformly to every single pixel on the screen, they can prioritise individual effects on specific game characters or important environmental objects. This technique results in more stable frame rates and higher resolution, with no impact on the final image quality”.

Xbox Series will also have SSD storage, a Quick Resume function that will allow multiple games in a suspended state to start almost instantly, Dynamic Latency Input (DLI) which will optimise latency with the Xbox controller, HDMI 2.1 (which includes Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and 120fps support.

Game compatibility is also a key factor with the Xbox Series X, with support for backward compatibility with Xbox 360 and original Xbox titles. The console will support a new feature called Smart Delivery, where a user only needs to purchase a game once in order to play a game on either Xbox One or Xbox Series X. Xbox mentions that Smart Delivery allows for users to download “the best available version for whichever Xbox console they choose to play on”. In addition to this, Xbox Game Pass will continue to be available on Xbox Series X, with Halo Infinite included at launch.

Xbox Series X is our fastest, most powerful console ever, designed for a console generation that has you at its centre. This means a high-fidelity gaming experience enclosed in a quiet and bold design, with the ability to discover thousands of games across four generations, all with more playing and less waiting.

Xbox Series X is set to release later this year. Let us know what you think of it!
