Square Enix’s E3 2018 Showcase

Let’s get the third day of E3 started with the sweet voice of Keith David and a few new games from Square Enix. No stage presentations here as it appears to be a pre-recorded digital showcase.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

After a quick introduction from Matsuda from Square Enix, we have some gameplay from the new Tomb Raider game. This new trailer showed off some pretty cool stealth and combat mechanics that have been refined from previous games. The developers are boasting new traversal techniques, bigger hub worlds and more tombs than ever before.

Available 14th September 2018 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood Update

With a  mix of cinematics and gameplay, FFXIV is getting a major update dubbed “Under the Moonlight”. It looks like there is also going to be a Monster Hunter World  and Final Fantasy XIV Crossover so look forward to it in Summer 2018 if you like to mix and match your worlds.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit

A new reveal trailer and an explanation from the developers DONTNOD that this isn’t Life is Strange season 2 but does exist in the same world.

Dragon Quest XI is a completely standalone experience that features entirely new characters, a beautifully detailed world, finely tuned turn-based combat, and an immersive story that will appeal to long-time fans and franchise newcomers alike.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Same trailer as the Microsoft showcase as well but it’s always nice to see that amazing art style once again. On their quest to defeat the darkness, Sora, Donald, and Goofy run into familiar friends and foes as they adventure through Disney and Pixar worlds, including Frozen, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Tangled!

Available 29th January 2019 on PS4 and Xbox One.

Conclusion and Thoughts

It was certainly a short presentation from Square Enix, totaling in at 30 minutes so these thoughts are also quite short. This could’ve possibly been a test run to be amped up in the coming years but I’m excited to see more about the two new IP’s that were announced. Seriously though, no Final Fantasy 7 update? I guess we will be waiting with baited breath for the Sony Conference to pull out all the stops.

I’m excited to play a new Tomb Raider game and explore all the new locations in the search of treasure. Just Cause 4 looks like everything has been cranked up once again so that should be a few hours of mindless fun after a long work day.

Next up is Ubisoft’s conference at 6am AEST today over at https://www.twitch.tv/ubisoft
