Xbox One: Region Locking is Still in Effect

Region locking will continue for the Xbox One. Yesterday, the technology website Digital Trends has reported that Microsoft will continue their trend of region locking their consoles.

“Similar to the movie and music industry, games must meet country-specific regulatory guidelines before they are cleared for sale”, a rep from Microsoft confirmed to Digital Trends. “We will continue to work with our partners to follow these guidelines with Xbox One”.

Although games released on the previous console were region locked at the discretion of the publishers, we are unsure if it will be the same for the Xbox One. If the games are completely region locked, that will mean that Australian PAL games could not be played on North American NTSC-based consoles, and vice versa.

Sony has yet to confirm if the PS4 will be region-locked but this may come to light at E3.
