Pokémon Go Announced for iOS and Android

The Pokémon Company has today unveiled its latest game in the Pokémon series with a huge focus on smartphone gaming. Instead of the iconic Johto or Kanto regions seen in previous games, the Pokémon Company is in collaboration with Nintendo and Niantic who were behind the augmented reality game Ingress. Dubbed ‘Pokémon GO’ the latest game in the series looks to follow in the footsteps of Ingress, letting players find Pokémon and do battle in the real world.

Get ready for an all-new Pokémon experience! Pokémon GO opens a universe of Pokémon to find, catch, trade, and battle on your iPhone or Android device! With Pokémon GO, you’ll discover Pokémon in a whole new world—your own! Pokémon GO will use real location information to allow players to experience catching, trading, and battling Pokémon. In addition to the announcement of Pokémon GO, Nintendo is also developing a companion device to go with the release of the game. The ‘Pokémon GO Plus’ will be designed to help you on your quest to catch all of the available Pokémon without having to be constantly anti-social and always looking at your phone. The device (which is shaped like a Pokéball teardrop) will light up and vibrate when an untamed Pokémon is near by.

While a price or release date has not yet been set for the Pokémon GO Plus device, Pokémon GO itself is set to be available in 2016 for iOS and Android devices. The game will be free to play but will have various in-app purchases available.
