Sony has released Firmware version 4.45 for the PS3 today, and it seems it’s causing problems with some owners.

According to the PlayStation US forums, a number of owners are reporting boot-up errors, with the system hanging at the waving ribbon section during start up and not proceeding further to the XMB menu. The issue is not affecting all PS3 owners, but is currently limited to a significant amount of users.

Update v4.45 is said to allow owners to turn off Trophy notifications, along with added system stability.

We’ll keep you up to date when we hear more information from Sony, or if a potential fix may arise. In the meantime, we advise you to not update your PS3.
