Halo: The Master Chief Collection Requires a 20GB Day One Update

Microsoft has announced a 20GB update for the upcoming Halo: The Master Chief Collection that will be released on day one alongside the game.

Posted on Xbox Wire, 343 Industries mention that the 20GB update will include “features and multiplayer content”, ultimately adding to the game’s already massive 45GB install size. Without this vital update, owners of the game will be limited solely to the single player content.

“Yes, the update is large, but we weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space.  This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in.  Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimize the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch.”

The news is a disappointing blow to the game as 20GB is quite a significant amount of data, especially for Australian gamers with limited internet. Add that to the initial 45GB if you decide to purchase a digital copy and you’ve got 65GB+ to worry about for one game. 343 Industries mention that they “weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space”, but we can’t understand why the extra data could not have been included as another disc in the physical copy. Maybe Blu-Ray discs are in short supply for November?

Nevertheless, we are excited for Halo: The Master Chief Collection which releases for Xbox One on 11 November.
