Grand Theft Auto 5 will be expanded and enhanced on PlayStation 5 in 2021 with free online and 1 Million in spending cash every month? Interesting way to start the conference but I guess some people will be excited for it on the new console.

It’s time for the new games to do the talking!

Spider-Man from Insomniac Games

Spider-Man Miles Morales is the next open world web slinging adventure game from Insomniac Games. There was a quick teaser trailer which got everyone excited for what’s to come in this reveal but get ready for a bunch of high flying city exploring and fast paced beat-em-ups!

Gran Turismo 7

Much like the Xbox launching with a new Forza Title, Playstation has brought back Gran Turismo with its 7th installment of the iconic driving simulator experience. Gameplay was shown off and it’s certainly looking pretty at 250kmph. The sounds of the cars seemed to be very high quality but it didn’t do much to show off the graphical power of the console like other games tend to do.

Ratchet and Clank – A Rift Apart

Get ready for a brand new deep dive into the Ratchet and Clank series, now with portals allowing for instant travel between worlds and all new features like Raytracing on Clank to make him all super shiny! We were shown a few minutes of gameplay which brings back a lot of nostalgia from the original series of games while still adding some new things to get excited for. Wise cracking back and forths between the two main characters while waves of enemies explode into nuts and bolts ready for collecting!

One of those extra features teased appeared to be another version of Ratchet? Excited to see what’s to come in the future of the game.

Project Athia (Working Title) – New IP from Square Enix

A very pretty looking open world game teased with some cool looking monsters and a female protagonist. A lot of particle effects featuring magic and fire was thrown around as a teaser and it certainly looked pretty! With Project Athia you can look forward to being transported to a vast and detailed world filled with beauty and dismay.

Stray – New IP – 2021

What if humans didn’t exist and it was just Robots… And cats. Well think no longer because now we have Stray to show off this world to us! The short teaser trailer followed a cat exploring a market district filled with various humanoid style robots. Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home.

Returnal –  Worldwide Studios – A HouseMarque Game

Space style repetitive montage of exploring a new unknown planet where the female protagonist is reliving through the same set of events over and over again with different elements that affect them. A possibly a mix between a 1st & 3rd person action game with some psychological elements and some pretty spoopy monsters to fight along the way. Players can also switch instinctively between firing modes in game by using a single adaptive trigger and can get right back into the action after dying.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure – Sumo Studios

Expanding from the Little Big Planet universe, It’s time for Sackboy to go on an adventure of their own. With a variety of characters around the world, it looks like this possibly up to 4 player co-op game will have you and your friends running through various platforming levels and conquering various fuzzy foes.

Destruction AllStars  – Lucid Games

What looks to be a high energy, destruction derby style game with a mix of vehicles, free running and power-ups. Smash up the competition and avoid the stage obstacles to come out on top of the rest in this high action and flashy smash’em up!

Kena – A Bridge of Spirits – Ember Lab

New Open world style Adventure game with a very polished cartoon art style. Arguably one of the best looking trailers throughout the announcement, Kena is a a young female protagonist learning to control the world around her with a spirit like magic staff. There a plenty of adorable creatures to help and even though the trailer was just a teaser with what looked to be some quick gameplay, it looks very pretty!

Oddworld Soulstorm – Oddworld Industries!

It’s Mutha heckin’ ODDWORLD! While it was mostly just a teaser trailer featuring this very well known protagonist and the new world around him, I’m still excited to dive back into the Oddworld franchise. We haven’t played a decent Oddworld game since the PlayStation One days!

Ghostwire: Tokyo – 2021 (PS5 Exclusive)

A cyberpunk style first person adventure filled with plenty of magic based particle effects, mixed with the original Japanese themed locales. Tokyo is overrun by deadly supernatural forces after 99% of the city’s population vanished. Use a powerful arsenal of spectral abilities to fight the paranormal threat and unravel the mystery behind the mass disappearance.

JETT The Far Shore – Holiday 2020 (PS4/PS5 Exclusive)

Quick teaser trailer of leaving earth and heading through space to an unknown planet, landing on said planet and then cutting to credits.

Godfall – New IP from Gearbox Publishing – Holiday 2020

A Very polished looking hack and slash style game with what looks to be some meaty combos and plenty of accessible weapons to try out. Dubbed “the first-of-its-kind, looter-slasher, melee action-RPG” it seems to be very reminiscent of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning with the same art style and mechanics. We will see what’s to coming from this hard hitting “looter-slasher”

Solar Ash – From creator of Hyper Light Drifter – 2021

Another teaser trailer with some art style graphics very reminiscent of the Hyper Light Drifter game. Solar Ash Kingdom is the second game from Heart Machine, the creators of the award winning 2016 game Hyper Light Drifter. Each area showcases innovative gameplay that taps into the new features of the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller.

Little Devil Inside – New IP from Neostream

Another open adventure style games with a little bit of humour mixed in. Looks to be possibly a duality of worlds system. Little Devil Inside is an action-adventure RPG with survival elements set in an atmospheric, semi-open world. The trailer reveals new scenes, monsters and glimpses of gameplay in various environments.

NBA 2K21 – Fall 2020 (Spring for Australia)

New Basketball game with some basketball but pretty with the new PlayStation 5 engine. Only a teaser trailer was shown so Basketball fans will have to wait to see what’s to come.

Bugsnax – New IP from Octodad creators

In what was probably the weirdest trailer amongst the lot, we have a food/animal hybrid where everything, including the monsters are made out of food. While the Australian accent of the character introducing the game was a little off putting, I’m sure this game is going to get me very hungry when I play it.

Demon’s Souls – Remake for PlayStation 5

The same Demon’s Souls that you know and hate but built from the ground up with a very fresh coat of paint. I can’t wait to die to some of these bosses over and over and over again.

Deathloop – New IP from Bethesda Softworks (PS5 and PC Holiday 2020)

Originally revealed back in June 2019, Deathloop is a First person FPS style game with a rogue like elements with a death loop mechanic. A New Horizon game was teased, expanding upon the very popular Horizon: Zero Dawn universe. The same unique style of bio-mechanics are featured in this trailer and they still look as awe-inspiring as ever. Alloy is back and she’s ready to kick some ass!

The PlayStation 5!

Finally the announcement showcase finished with the design reveal of the console and for the first time ever, there are two separate models at launch! A PlayStation 5 console with an Ultra HD Blu-Ray disc drive and a PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive. Let’s hope we get some upgrades in the storage capacity for these consoles because those SSD’s are going to fill up quickly! What looks to be a new 3D audio headset is being released alongside the console (sold separately), as well as a new DualSense charging station and HD camera for the 3 people that may want to stream their PlayStation 5 gameplay.

The console was teased at the end of the conference with not many details released. We don’t have a release date (although 2020 was mentioned), we don’t have a price for either of the consoles, we don’t have how many precious TFLOPS it will do but the console itself is looking very sleek and its futuristic design will easily stand out on a TV cabinet. For those worried about only being in vertical mode, it does also work laying down horizontal but personally I don’t think it looks as good. There was also no announcement of PlayStation VR (PSVR) and it’s compatibility with the PlayStation 5. There will be more announcements to come in the future so keep a look out for that if you’re interested.

There was also quick video showing off the features of the new DualSense Wireless controller which also has the same sleek and futuristic design. Features like the headphone jack are still present with this controller which is a great sight to see.

That’s all folks! What was your favourite announcement during the showcase? Are you excited to get the new futuristic console into your living room? Regardless of the answer, I’m sure our wallets will be crying out in pain when we finally get some of those extra details in the coming months. Be sure to stay to check back with us when we have some more information for you!
