Sea of Solitude – Developed by Jo-Mei

The premise of this game was told as “When humans get too lonely they turn into monsters”. Sea of Solitude was created from the lowest point in the developers life and they used it to try and create something beautiful. You play as a female character called Kay and you explore the world to find out if you can turn her back into a human. On her search to change, she soon finds out that her biggest enemies are not the huge monsters that she meets on her way through the Sea of Solitude, but something way more dangerous.

Command & Conquer: Rivals

Mobile iteration of Command & Conquer coming to iOS and Android. Android players are able to play the pre-alpha today on the google play store.

Anthem

Here’s what we have all been waiting for. “In-engine footage” trailer depicts a harsh world with tough characters that are fighting to survive and triumph as one. Halic, Fae and Owen appear to be characters from the game that you will communicate with as you explore the world of Anthem.

Javelin suit classes appear to be separated into four types: Ranger, Colossus, Interceptor and Storm. Cosmetic and vanity options are going to be purchasable at launch of the game and the focus appears to be on the co-op experience. Hopefully they will still allow for the Single-player experience to feel worthwhile.

Available February 22, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Conclusion and Thoughts

With the first cab off the rank, EA Play is done and dusted. Unfortunately, I didn’t expect much from the EA this year and they delivered exactly what I expected. Anthem looked to be the big finale which meant we needed to get through the cinematic trailers, awkward on stage moments and the predictable shoutcast event. Then Unravel Two popped up out of nowhere and to top it all off, it’s available today?! Forget everything else this year for E3, this is what I’m going to be playing for the next few days. I’m not a sports game fan outside of dabbling every so often in FIFA so it fell flat a little for me with little to no information on the upcoming yearly title but hopefully we will be getting some more information as the week continues.

I can’t believe they spent five minutes reminding everyone that Command & Conquer is dead and has now been retired to the mobile platform. At least we didn’t have YouTube personalities trying to make a name for themselves and forgetting what scripted lines they were meant to dish out, which is a plus. I was hoping for more from the Anthem showing and while it was nice to have some answers from the developers regarding micro-transactions and customisation, I’m getting a lot of Destiny vibes so take that as you will.

Next up we have Microsoft, kicking off at 6:00am AEST tomorrow (11 June) so stay tuned for more E3 2018 coverage.
