In their latest Nintendo Direct overnight, Nintendo has announced NES Remix, a bizarre new Wii U eShop title today.

Putting a twist on 16 classic titles, NES Remix sees Wario Ware style gameplay used to give these older titles a new lease on life. As shown in the trailer below, players are given a number of challenges to achieve in modified versions of the original titles. Games featured include Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Excitebike, Super Mario Bros, The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight and much more.

NES Remix will also feature Miiverse functionality, with the ability to post records from stages and to collect stamps. NES Remix also supports off-screen Play. This appears to be the weird sort of experimentation Nintendo fans have been clamouring for from the entertainment juggernaut for years, so bravo for listening to your fans, Nintendo!
