Sony Computer Entertainment Australia have announced that a revised, Wi-Fi only PS Vita will be releasing in Australia next month.

Originally launching in Japan last year, the new model PS Vita (PCH-2000 series) will feature a more streamlined form factor and a 1GB internal memory card. Sony mention that the revised model is 20-percent slimmer and 15-percent lighter than the original system, allowing for the handheld console to be more portable. While this PS Vita won’t have an OLED screen like its predecessor, it will feature a 5-inch high-definition LCD display.

Sony have provided a full description of the features below:

Rounded shape fits comfortably into hands

The new streamlined PS Vita system features an enhanced, ergonomically rounded shape. Coupled with the trimmed down body, users will be able to enjoy game play more comfortably. In addition, the PS button / START button / SELECT button have been modified to a round and convex shape, allowing users to push more easily.

Improved usability

Incorporating a 1GB internal memory card, PS Vita enables users to enjoy games without purchasing a separate PS Vita memory card or any added peripherals. Additionally, the new PS Vita system features a power indicator and notification indicator at the top of the system which will provide users with information, such as power status or incoming messages. Furthermore, the new PS Vita system incorporates a micro USB port enabling users to utilize their own USB cable, such as those used for smartphones, for charging or backing up data.

Longer battery life

The redesigned internal architecture of the new PS Vita system also contributed to stronger battery duration, enabling it to achieve approximately 4 to 6 hours of game play (current model is approximately 3 to 5 hours) and approximately 7 hours of video play (current model is approximately 5 hours).

The revised PS Vita will release in Australia on 4 June, with a RRP of $269.95 AUD. Will you be picking up one of these when it releases? Let us know!
