PlayStation 4 Surpasses 2.1 Million Global Sales

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc (SCEI) have announced that 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units have sold worldwide as of 1 December 2013, with 700,000 units from Europe and the Australasia region.

 

Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SCEI has commented on the sales, saying the “PS4 delivered the best launch in PlayStation history with the North American release and we’ve continued this incredibly successful start in Europe, Australasia and Latin America”.

“Demand remains incredibly strong and continues to overwhelm the supply worldwide, but we are diligently working to meet those growing demands and to deliver additional PS4 units to our retail partners throughout the holiday season.  We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support.”

Demand for the PlayStation 4 has been especially high in Australia, with the console sold out in retailers nationwide, along with eBay listings averaging $800AUD (at the time of posting this article). Managing Director at Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand, Michael Ephraim has mentioned, “We continue to be overwhelmed by the demand and positive sentiment Australia is showing for PlayStation 4 and our priority is get as much stock into the country as we can, as quickly as possible. For those fans eager to get their hands on a PS4, we promise there is plenty to look forward to.”

 

Extra shipments of the PlayStation 4 are said to arrive before Christmas for second batch pre-orders, with late orders to arrive in early 2014.
